In the age of social media, it seems everything is recorded and posted online. Truly, it gets to the point of being ridiculous because people don’t think of the repercussions of their actions before posting, or how others may perceive it.
I love to see positivity on the internet, especially when sometimes it seems the world is full of so much negativity. However, one thing I simply can’t get behind is this trend of recording yourself doing something positive for someone else. I can’t help but wonder in situations such as that, is that person doing it to be genuine, or because they desire their 15 minutes of fame?
My favorite example of this? God’s Plan by Drake. I understand the premise of the song and why his actions in the music video tie in with that, but something struck me as odd hearing him essentially say “I’m a God to these people, look, I’m providing for them.” While I think it’s great to be giving, it gave me the perception that he was doing all of this to look good, not to be genuine.
I believe America is made stronger by giving people, not by those who are merely pining for fame and recognition.
But when you give to the needy, do not let your left hand know what your right hand is doing,
